Random Colleague

Manufacturer: Random Corporation
Machine Type: Colleague
Model Number:
Serial Number: 12459PBG
Current Status: Complete and working
Acquired: 1991
Remarks:
The Colleague was the first computer considered to be in the ACVM even before there was a computer collection. It was tranferred between the computer museum curator and the owner of formatc.org who used it to connect to a Washington DC BBS before it came to permanently reside here. Basically, it's a laptop computer terminal. It emulates the DEC VT-220 terminal and uses a full size keyboard. It has an internal 2400 bps modem and also runs on batteries or either a 9vdc center positive a/c adaptor. The LCD display is a monochrome type, 25 lines high and 80 columns and also has a scrolling 132 column feature. This computer also has a word processor built in and a setup screen for the modem so the Colleague can be modified to connect to many other services or computers via modem. Serial and Parallel port connectors are also on the back for connecting devices there as well.
