IBM PS/2 Server 95A Pentium class

IBM PS/2 Server 95A

Manufacturer: IBM
Machine Type: PS/2 Server 95
Model Number: 9595-0QT
Serial Number: 23WG247
Current Status: Excellent. Complete and working
Acquired: second half of 2000
Remarks:
Although the 95 series "premium" models are below the 10 year criteria for classic computers, they reside in the collection due to its classic MCA bus. This Model 95 has all the easy to use features and advances of the PS/2 family and also includes a tamperproof cover, 300 watt power supply, security features, LED information panel, and selectable start options. Model 95s use a processor complex of which there are 486 50, 66 and pentium 60 and 66 and 90 Mhz speeds. Current configuration of the machine follows:
Type 4 Pentium 66 CPU (it still has the 'flawed' chip)
112meg ECC memory
2 SCSI hard drives for a total of 3G total hard drive space (1G boot, 2G data)
Toshiba (IBM badged) caddy-type CDROM
IBM 16/4 Token Ring NIC
3Com Ethernet NIC
XGA-2 video
SK-Net FDDI adapter
IBM SCSI adaptor (for external devices only)
ATI graphics ultra pro video card (disabled)
Electronic eject 1.2 5.25 floppy drive and additional 3.5 inch drive.
This 95 has OS/2 Version 4 with all Fixpacks applied as well as Staroffice and Opera for OS/2 and a selection of 16bit windows programs. File and print sharing has been turned on so the computer can connect to Win95 and Win2k machines when networked. All of this is easily done with TCP/IP and OS/2 NETBIOS. The FDDI card is not being used at this time, but possibly will as another PS/2 not yet featured has another FDDI card to connect to. There is an ATI graphics ultra pro which provides even better video than the XGA-2 installed, but the system has disabled the card. More testing will be done to see if can be configured to run alongside the XGA card. The system runs fine and can share files with other machines as well as connect to the internet via a DSL router using DHCP and NAT. The 9595 models have a floppy drive cable with provisions for 3 floppy drives. The 5.25 drive cabled in as the third drive uses a drive letter assigned after the hard drives and CDROM get one. No bezel is available for it right now, so the original bezel remains in place. Future additions include an MCA based sound card.
