Manufacturer: IBM
Machine Type: PS/2 Model 77
Model Number: 9577-OUF
Serial Number: 23H9254
Current Status: Excellent. Complete and working
Acquired: Oct 1996
Remarks:
Even though this is not a classic yet, it remains one of the ACVM favourites. The PS/2 was certainly ahead of its time. This model has a 486sx-33, 16 meg of parity memory, 2 400 meg SCSI hard drives, 16/4 token ring NIC, joystick card and 2.88 floppy drive. The machine was surplus at work so it was purchased for $260 which included an 8515 monitor as well as keyboard and mouse. Originally it came with OS/2 2.1 but now has been upgraded to Warp Connect and a Cabletron Ethernet NIC. People may not like the PS/2 model, but was state of the art for its time. BIOS was on a protected hard drive partition, built-in SCSI, hi-speed serial ports, but mouse and true PnP architecture which was more reliable than what we have today. The IBM R/6000 still uses MCA. This machine is built to last and will probably outlive most machines made today.
