Machine Type: PS/2 Model 25
Model Number: 8525-004
Serial Number: 88-88985
Current Status: Complete and working
Acquired: Nov 1999
Remarks:
The PS/2 model 25 is the base model of the PS/2 family which was first announced in 1987. It provided all the capabilities of the IBM XT and included other features. The model 25 is an all in one form factor, similar to a macintosh. It uses an 8086 CPU running at 8mhz and includes dual 720k floppy drives and MCGA graphics which is capable of 256 colours built in. 512k of memory is standard upgradable to 640k with DIP chips. Two 8 bit expansion slots are available, however there are space limitations due to the small interior space.

The model pictured above originally was configured with only one floppy drive, but another was fitted sometime during its life. A Hardcard20 was installed which is basically a 20meg hard drive built onto a full length adaptor card which just does fit inside the case. A Hardcard 20 sticker can be seen on the upper right of the display. Interestingly, the sticker was present before the curator installed the hard drive! The machine boots fine from the hard drive and runs IBM DOS 3.3. Also shown is the IBM space saver keyboard which is shorter due to the keypad which is missing.
