The Macintosh Plus is the fourth model in the Macintosh line. It uses a MC68000 CPU running at 7.8336 MHz. It has 32bit internal registers and a 24bit address bus. No coprocessor is supported on this model. It has 128k of ROM and supports memory sizes of 1,2,2.5 and 4meg. The Mac Plus also has no hardware memory management and no slot expansion. The sound comes from a RAM based mono sound buffer. The Plus is the first Mac to have an 800k floppy drive and can support a 400k or 800k external floppy drive. A SCSI port made its debut on this model and two mini-DIN serial ports are available. The 9inch display provides a black and white image at 512x342 pixels. The Mac Plus keyboard also came with a numeric keypad unlike earlier models and the mouse connects on the back via a DB9 connection. This macintosh is a standard beige 1 meg plus model, but has an option called Hyperdrive. It's an internal board that plugs into the system board allowing the use of a Seagate MFM hard drive. The hard drive mounts right behind the tube and the internal fan is mounted in the top of the case exhausting through the cooling vents. When the mac powers up, it shows the ? icon until it can figure it there is a hard drive to boot from. Special software loads which allows the drive to be partitioned 3 ways. Copies of the Hyperdrive software can be provided on request. This computer also has the security locking tab installed.
