Remarks:
Amstrad is a British computer (computre?) company that made IBM compatibles from the 8088 on up to the 486 class. The PC6400HD20 is the american version of the Amstrad 1640. Other than the model number, they are identical. This computer is an IBM XT compatible. It uses an 8088 running at 4.77 mhz and has one 360k floppy drive and a 20meg MFM hard drive. The monitor houses the power supply for the CPU and has CGA compatibility. Without the monitor, the computer cannot function. A proprietary keyboard is used, and there is a connector for a serial mouse beside the keyboard connector and a standard joystick can be attached on the back of the keyboard. In the rear of the unit are 3 full length ISA slots which are accessable by removing two covers. This computer has a CH Products joystick card and a 2400bps modem installed. Originally, the software that came with the system consisted of Locomotive BASIC, GEM desktop, and something called DOS Plus, which allowed CPM compatibility. For now, this Amstrad runs PCDOS 7 and various other applications loaded on by the previous user. The time frame for this machine puts it about 1988 as evidenced by the manufacturer's date tag on the unit.
